enthusiasm
Mark Tindle was an enthusiast for many styles of music, embracing with equal aplomb English and Celtic folk music, American bluegrass and Old Timey, comic songs in the music hall tradition and rock & roll. For a long time a good guitarist and 5-string banjo player, in recent years he devoted time and energy to learning the fiddle. Typically, he sought the company of the best players he could find, eager to learn as much as he could from those he admired.

Not so long ago Mark brought these various music interests together in his emerging talent as a songwriter. His songs reflect his great sense of humour but also his deeper thoughts about the ways of the world. It is our great loss that these songs comprise those on his only CD, Made Up Songs plus four of the songs on this CD:

Enthusiasm’ spans 20 years of Mark’s musical achievements. Midnight Moonlight and Route 66 were recorded in 1985 by his band The Last Detail. The most recent songs are his own Cold, Cold War and Lenin in the Chip Shop which have been arranged around his solo home recordings. In between are tracks by Five Go Off (of which Mark was a founder member way back in 1978), and more of Mark’s own songs Nottingham Roughneck and Bill Monroe - which he intended to take around the DJs on local radio stations on a USA visit. The CD also features fine examples of some of Mark’s favourite music with the Leen Valley Boys..
